Maria

DAISY Award Recipient

Congratulations, Maria, on being a Daisy Award Recipient!

“Maria has talked to me one on one many times and with others even though she doesn’t have to. Personally it means a lot, especially because she could just do her paperwork, give out meds and call it a day. Every time Maria comes into work she always asks us how we’re doing. The whole unit overall has a good vibe when she’s here.”

The DAISY Foundation was started in memory of Patrick Barnes who passed away in 1999 from complications of the autoimmune disease, ITP. His family wanted to turn their grief into something positive and create something that would capture Pat’s very special spirit. They created the DAISY Foundation, DAISY being an acronym for Diseases Attacking the Immune System. Their mission became to express gratitude to nurses with programs that recognize them for the extraordinary skillful, compassionate care they provide patients and families.

Nominations are received by fellow staff and patients, and those nominees are discussed with the leadership team for evaluation of DAISY criteria:

  • Models empathy and demonstrates a caring attitude in all situations
  • Demonstrates extraordinary clinical skills in the delivery of  compassionate patient care
  • Positive attitude and demonstrates professionalism
  • Exemplifies the mission, vision, and values of Tower Behavioral Health

A nominee will be chosen twice yearly. Learn more about the DAISY foundation.
